Elijah’s Message

“Should you choose to accept this mission……………………… Now what does this phrase remind you of?

Am sure most of you guys have watched Mission Impossible, the movie. The above phrase was always at the beginning of the movie trilogy.  I was definitely a fan of it with all those spy stuff in the movie. The main character’s mission was to Continue reading Elijah’s Message

Deutronomy 28

And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:  (Deu 28:1)

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and Continue reading Deutronomy 28

Of Apologetics and Arguments

Some time back I had a heated discussion with members of my church’s Bible study group on whether Christians should discuss Bible theology in terms of apologetics. From their perspective apologetics and arguing were the same thing and the Bible says that we should be not involved in quarrels. In other word, it is wrong to give a defense of your faith because it will lead to quarrels (read Arguments) of which leads to sin. However, they seemed to have misunderstood the concept of apologetics and that same day, in the evening, I came up with this article to explain the matter at hand. I focused on differentiating between arguments and apologetics.

Apologetics can be defined as the branch of Christian theology which attempts to give a rational defense of the Christian faith. Apologetics is giving a reason for why you believe what you believe.

The English word “apologetics” comes from the Greek word apologia which means “to give a reason or defense

Apologetics is also called “pre-evangelism”, meaning it is before evangelism. In other words how can you witness and yet you don’t have a strong foundation of your faith. How do you expect to witness and yet you don’t know the meaning of Salvation?

In essence apologetics goes HAND in HAND with witnessing. It EQUIPS you to witness.

Why should we as Christians do apologetics?

There are 4 reasons: Continue reading Of Apologetics and Arguments

Any Given Good Friday

aka The Scouting Mission. This year’s Good Friday (2010) was one of the few I missed church. But for the good. The early morning came with rain. Seems like global warming is running away from Kenya. The normal rain season is back. I remember with nostalgia 15 years ago when the Safari rally was an exciting event. I would never miss it thanks to my dad.

My compass was pointing towards KPA.  Its some where along Mombasa road right opposite General Motors (GM). Its the inland port for cargo/ containers. But beyond those containers there exists human settlements that I had no idea about. I was told the parcels of land belonged to Maasai settlers  who sold to different inidividuals as they demarcated the large piece of land.

Settlements result into a Continue reading Any Given Good Friday

Equiping Disciples aka A Well Spent Sunday Afternoon

A hot Sunday afternoon in Nairobi city found Maithya and I looking for a route 34 matatu bound for Donholm. Finding this particular matatu was not easy given the fact that we had to ask several times at which stage they were located. And of course the tasking bit of throwing our hawky eyes in the heavily human infested town of Nairobi. 10 years ago a crowded Nairobi city on a Sunday was foreign to the eyes of many. (I believe its high time the government took decentralization seriously)

Anyway, back to the story: we boarded, paid 50 bob (quite painful) and reached our destination (Christian Liberty Church). Without wasting time (of course the formalities of being welcomed were there), we began the training immediately since we reached on time(Quite an achievement for a Kenyan). Our dear former colleague (Robert) from KU welcomed us and introduced us to our trainees who were the youthful members of the church. They quite eager to learn how to share the Gospel. Maithya and I took turns in presenting. I always enjoy acting the part of the unbeliever when demonstrating on how the four laws are used. Why? I try to reproduce the thoughts and questions of an unbeliever that I usually get when I do witnessing personally. For example, since the devil was banished to Earth by God, does that mean Continue reading Equiping Disciples aka A Well Spent Sunday Afternoon

The New Black

During my primary school days, I remember Mrs. Peninah, our science teacher teaching us the basic principle of magnetism whereby opposite poles attract while same poles oppose.

Look at the natural world. Does a cockerel chase another cockerel to mate or does it chase a female chicken? Am sure when you’re in upcountry you have observed this. So what am I trying to say?

God made man (Adam), man saw that he was lonely Continue reading The New Black

Authority: Good or Bad It Doesn’t Matter

Hi guys (wasee wa plainsview young adults).
Last week (6th September) we looked at how us as Christians should respect those who are in authority. This is a difficult topic to tackle considering the nature of today’s government in Kenya. We hear and read of cases of corruption that are never solved and the impunity that we keep on hearing that the president has done. There’s no Continue reading Authority: Good or Bad It Doesn’t Matter
